Our Covenant Children

This past Sunday, Allie and Harper were baptized at our church, Atlanta Westside.  If you have 12 minutes, you can see the baptism here:

Our pastor, Walter Henegar, did email us to apologize for leaving out the vows.  They are beautiful and we want to be reminded of our promises as we raise our blueberries, so I will post them here:

1.    Do you acknowledge Allie and Harper's need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit?
2.    Do you claim God’s covenant promises on Allie and Harper's behalf, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation, as you do for your own?
3.    Do you now unreservedly dedicate Allie and Harper to God, and promise, in humble reliance upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before them a godly example, that you will pray with and for them, that you will teach them the doctrines of our holy religion, and that you will strive, by all the means of God’s appointment, to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?

Walter chose these verses and wrote these prayers for each girl:
Allie:
1 John 3:20 For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.

"My prayer for you, Allie, is that God will protect you from the great burden of a condemning conscience, and replace it with a supernatural awareness of his immeasurable love for us through Jesus -- that you may help relieve others and remind them of this same redeeming love.

Harper:
Titus 3:5 He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.

"My prayer for you, Harper, is that you will know, from the earliest possible age, that your righteousness cannot save you, but his own mercy can -- that you find freedom in this fact, and so lead others to rest in it with you."

Covenant Children!
Allie wore the Christening gown that was first worn by her great, great grandmother, Mary Katherine Faucette Huffaker (my namesake) in 1906.  It was later worn by my aunts, cousins, Tyler, and me.  We had a gown made for Harper with her name and birth date monogrammed on it.

It was a joyous occasion and we celebrated afterwards with a luncheon at our condo.  The weather could not have been more pleasant and I wish we had gotten a picture of all the family who joined us.
